Women who undergo breast augmentation surgery show improvements to their psychological well-being, a study reveals.
Conducted by Dr. Elvio Bueno Garcia, MD, Ph.D., the study evaluated a group of women who opted for breast augmentation surgery to correct their asymmetrical breasts. Many women who suffer from this condition develop low-self esteem and various levels of depression during their teenage years, Garcia said.
This study evaluated 35 women who underwent breast augmentation, breast lifts, breast reductions or a combination of these procedures to correct their uneven breasts.
Garcia concluded that many of these women experienced life improvements on different levels, including:
• Increased social and physical function
• Elevated overall health.
• Pain improvements
• Increased self-esteem
Cosmetic enhancements aren’t a cure-all for deeply-rooted emotional problems, or serious psychological conditions. But some women suffering from low self-confidence or depression lingering from their teenage years experienced mental health improvements following enhancement surgery.
